Blog Journal #7
After viewing a few different school websites, I decided to write about the one for Bond Elementary School. When looking at their home page, there is a menu tab for "Classes & Programs," which allows you to click on a variety of different options. Once selecting a class, the teacher's page follows. Some of the information present on these pages is meet the teacher, announcements, assignments, student resources, and a calendar. Each teacher appears to utilize their page in a similar way, but with information pertaining to the specific class. Students use all of this information to ensure that they keep up to date with their responsibilities.
If/when I become an educator in the future, I definitely envision myself using technology to accomplish my responsibilities in an efficient and effective way. One tool that I would definitely use is a teacher website containing all of the most important information that my students and their parents need to know. This way, they would be able to find answers to many of their questions outside of class. I would also use Canvas to not only communicate easily with students and my class as a whole, but to post assignments and grades as well. I have also really enjoyed using Blogger, and I would definitely think about using this program in my future classroom to allow students to communicate their thoughts about the weekly lessons.
When using PB Works to complete last week's website evaluation assignment, it was my first time using the program. I was happy that this assignment was one that required working in a group, because I felt that we all helped each other navigate the tools of the program. I liked that we were able to create a cohesive assignment, however the collaboration tools were a bit tricky. Two people could not work on the page at the same time, so we had to take turns typing and saving our work so that the rest of the group could view it. In the end, I enjoyed working with my group and navigating PB Works.
