Blog Journal #6
Diigo is a tool that I was never introduced to before beginning this course, so I was unfamiliar with it at the start. Without the tutorials posted for us in the weekly modules, I definitely would have difficulty completing the tasks. Now that we have had a few scenarios of practice with bookmarking websites, I feel comfortable doing it on my own. I like that each student can post articles and share them with the group, because it creates a beneficial shared space for relevant information. Being able to annotate articles and add short descriptions also helps to navigate the site. In my opinion the website could be more user- friendly, but it is nothing to stress about after watching tutorials.
Blogging is also something that I have never been required to do for a class, nor have I done it for reasons outside of school. I definitely think blogging each week is helpful to reflect on what we have done and what new tools we have been introduced to. I enjoy reading my classmates' posts as well, because I find it relatable when we share opinions on different things. Because this is an online course, student interaction is minimal, but using tools like blogging definitely helps to change that. Having the class blog with everyone's individual blogs linked is also nice, because everything you need can be found in one place.
A Web 2.0 tool that I could see myself using as an educator and that my teachers have used in the past is YouTube. Although there are many videos on YouTube that are not educational, its benefits and resources are endless. There is a video for just about everything, making it easy to find a plethora of videos on educational topics. In the past, I have used YouTube to watch Ted Talks, tutorials on how to cite sources, how to organize research papers, and also math lessons. Teachers can use YouTube to show their class videos that explain in depth topics that may otherwise be difficult to cover. YouTube is also a free website, so students could use it on their own time to get help on anything they are struggling with. The link to the YouTube website is here.
Hi Sara! I agree with you on blogging. I feel like the required blogging makes me feel more connected to my classmates, which can be especially hard in an online class.
