Blog Journal #4 I have chosen an ELA technology standard of the 2nd grade level that is listed as LAFS.2.L.3.4. This standard describes the different strategies that can be used to figure out the meanings of unknown words or phrases within a text. These strategies include using sentence- level context clues, using previous knowledge of root words, and using glossaries that are either print or digital. I do feel prepared to implement this standard because this too is how I was taught to read and expand my vocabulary. To this day when I come across a word that I do not know the meaning of, I first try to use context clues to determine it. If that doesn't suffice, I rely typically on digital dictionaries. Because of my practice with them, I feel that I could teach these ways to my students. The tool that I would use in my classroom is the 2nd grade English Language Arts original student tutorials. Blog Journal #3 Copyright and fair use both play an important role in classroom settings. Many assignments require students to do outside research in order to provide sufficient information about any certain topic. It is important that teachers show their students how to do this without essentially stealing from the original creator. Copyright is a legal way of protecting one's work from being used by another person and claimed as their own. As a teacher, it is common to create lesson plans around sources found on the Internet, which is where fair use comes into play. Fair use allows some copyright information to be used for purposes such as teaching and education without having to pay credit to the original author. Knowing where and when this is allowed helps teachers to legally pull information that enhances their ability to teach a lesson. Technology implementation issues ...

Blog Journal #2 My experience using Microsoft Word as a student throughout my educational career has been positive for the most part. I believe it is a very efficient way to complete assignments and be able to revise them after given feedback by teachers or peers. I prefer Microsoft Word to other softwares such as Google Docs, however I do think that Google Docs is beneficial to use when completing group work. This is because it easily allows everyone to input their own opinions and edit the piece as a whole. In middle school and high school, I recall mainly using pen and paper to write essays, but that changed greatly once I got to college. I have written essentially every single essay/assignment on Microsoft Word in order to either submit through Canvas or print and bring in to class. The ISTE Standard for Educators that is most meaningful to me is number 4: Collaborator. I believe that it is important for educators to not only rela...

Hi, my name is Sara Hirschfeld and I'm a senior here at FSU. I'm a fourth year psychology major and am also completing a minor in education. Something I've always been very interested in and may want to pursue a career in is school psychology, hence my major and minor choices. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and have never lived anywhere else. I have always enjoyed south Florida and definitely see myself there after college. Before the pandemic hit in 2020, I had only had very base- level experience using technology in a school setting. In high school my teachers relied more on textbooks and scantron exams rather than online learning and test- taking. This has massively changed in the past year and a half due to school having to be completely online. Virtual class, advising, and group work have now become the norm. I prefer in person learning, but technology definitely made a lot of things possible that wouldn't have been without it. ...
